Sibbons Rises Above Banter
Tuesday, 29 July, 2008
The 2nd team posted a dramatic win against Pegasus & Corringham. Having been set 204 following some tidy bowling all round from Ollie, Nicky, Kevin, Shaun and Joe, the task looked a tough one at 9 for 3.
Joe Sibbons kept his head down and played some great shots throughout contiual reminders from the opposition that he was just a one man team following the collapse at the top of the order. Joe remained unphased and went on to post 59 not out to see the game home.
Sibbons was well supported by Kev Grant who did his bit in the 195 unbeaten fourth wicket stand with 122 not out.
Sunday Side Cruise to Victory

The Sunday XI cruised to victory against St Aidens with a 50 from Scott Silver and five wickets from Sam Irvine finishing with figures of 8-0-34-5. Congratulations to him!
Big Win for Firsts while Thirds Continue Unbeaten
Sunday, 22 June, 2008

A good alround display by the first team saw them cruise to victory against Burnham Sports. EMT lost the toss and were put in to bat. Kev Grant and Tim McGregor opened the batting and overcome some early movement before moving the score on quickly. Kevin then fell in the 20th over with the score on 96.
Following the loss of a couple of wickets and a period of five consecutive maiden overs, Justin James went out to bat. He started his innings with some sensible singles before opening up and blasting the ball to all parts. 79 from Tim and 80 not out from Justin saw the score on to 249 for 7 at the end of the 50 overs.
Burnham got off to a good start after some uncharacteristic bowling from Walshy. Zach Dunkley bowled some tidy stuff at the other end but the wickets did come immediately. Once Walshy got the breakthrough however, the collapse begun!
Walshy was the pick of the bowling with 6 for 40 backed up by Chris Hunt with 3 for 13. Glen Johnson also took a couple of cracking catches. Bobby Mills, on his first team debut came on to bowl at the end and picked up the last Burnham wicket finishing their innings at 89.
A big win and a great all round performance. Well done to all the boys!
U15s Reach County Last 8
Thursday, 19 June, 2008
Tuesday saw our under 15s in the last 16 of the Essex Peters Cup for under 15s against Canvey.
The team: Olley, Norfolk, Dunkley, Wiggins, Mills, Tiffin, Grant, Sibbons, Cleaver, Proctor, Beardwell. Only Ryan Saggers was unavailable with his broken finger.
EMT lost the toss and were sent into bat. A slow start against some good accurate bowling meant EMT only had 8 runs from 5 overs. Encouraged by a crowd of supporters EMT started to open out and some great batting and unusually some hard running between the wickets by Declan and Glen started to move the score on.
Both Declan and Glen retired on 50* and EMT eventually posted a very good score of 136-2 off our 20 overs, Canvey were a little dispirited after their good start.
After 4 overs in reply 25-0 and the game was in the balance but then wickets for all the EMT bowlers started to make inroads and eventually bowled Canvey out for 90 with 2 overs to spare. A home draw against Wanstead in the last eight awaits.
Hard Lessons Learnt at Sunbury
Monday, 16 June, 2008
Following the first round victory against Caribbean Anchor, EMT travelled to Surrey Championship club Sunbury. With EMT having three under 15s in the team while Sunbury had at least three first class cricketers, it was always going to be a tough contest but after losing the toss, the prospect of a long afternoon in the field looked on.
The Sunbury innings started relatively slowly with some tight bowling up front from Walshy. Zach came on at first change and immediately made an impact causing the impressive Hall problems. At the other end, Maunders who has played the last couple of seasons for Leicestershire, continued on his way relatively untroubled. After 20 overs, EMT had done
well to keep the score at 91 but the killer stat was that the breakthrough wicket hadn't come.
The first wicket fell in the 39th over in Dunkley's second spell following an opening partnership of 274. The former Leicestershire man was replaced by Ireland U19 and Middlesex player, Paynter. Zach managed to pick him off as well with some more accurate bowling. There was also some tidy bowling from Glen Norfolk, both him and Zach showing up some of the senior bowlers.
Hall finished the innings by getting to his double ton in a great knock and the Sunbury total at 395-2.
EMT innings started well with runs flying to all parts of the ground while there was a very attacking field and hit the 100 mark after 15 overs - 5 overs ahead of Sunbury! Gary Vann hit a quick 54 before eventually being caught while Alex Warren hit a 20 ball 34 to give the visitors something to smile about. Scott Silver and Steve Hunt pushed into the 30s and Chris Hunt took his competition batting average to 52 before the innings closed on 220.
I hope all our boys enjoy the day and will take away the cricketing lessons while I hope our hosts (apart from Mr Maunders) learn some social lessons from our guys.
Congratulations to Sunbury and good luck in the next round.
A quick mention to Ryan Saggers who, on his 1st team debut, was looking solid behind the stumps (apart from "that ball" eh Ryan, don't worry - I won't mention it! :-) ) before he broke his finger. He then showed some great character to then come out and bat while still in considerable pain. You'll be back in no time! Get well soon!
3rds Continue Unbeaten Run
Monday, 16 June, 2008
The 3rd team showed the class of champions to comforably beat Springfield IV by 8 wickets. This big win kept them near the top of the league right on St Johns Billericay's tail. They play home against Broomfield this week.
The 1st XI fell to a disappointing loss to Brookweald. The game was in the balance with 20 overs of the Brookweald innings remaining after EMT set 195 however, a late partnership saw Brookweald home for 7 wickets with just an over remaining./
Anoter win from the 2nd XI kept their push for promotion alive while the 4th XI lost to Rayne.
